One of the best functional descriptions of progress – though not intentionally defined as such – came from Roger Dawson.
Roger is known most for his works (seminars, books, programs) on negotiating. One phrase he uses sticks in my mind and is not only applicable to the world of negotiating but also any other area of life is this:
“Where are we now compared to where we were an hour ago, or two hours ago, or compared to yesterday or last week”
In so many other areas and in general this is the functional definition of progress.
Losing weight…accumulating wealth…improving health…raising your children…fundraising…deepening a relationship…etc…etc
Where are we now compared to where we were.
