An insight:
I’ve been reading again lately, more so than the past few months – or so it seems. A renewed interest in my books. Partly because I recently added a new bookshelf which was lacking in the new house.
Due to this my books are visible to me and not in boxes anymore. And my interest in reading many that I’ve yet to read has been invigorated.
The book I’ve been reading had a chapter talking about goals and the author’s experience with goals during his learning. The line that jumped out at me was this, in reference to your goals:
“Is what you are doing going to get you there?”
Is your current situation – job, actions, behaviors, management of time, allocation of resources (time, energy, attention) going to get you to your goals? This is so powerful, yet it begs that I analyze my current goals and my plans to accomplish them. Is what I’m doing going to get me to my goals?
The author uses his example at that point in time, making $80/week verses his goal of becoming a millionaire by age thirty. He figured out he’d have to work for 240 years to even earn one million dollars – let alone be worth that much.
Yes, change was necessary for him to reach his goal. He did accomplish this goal among others he set at the time.
I see that for me to reach certain goals I have set that some adjustments to my plans are in order.
Is what you are doing going to get you to your goals?
