Like today, I woke up a little later than normal – this isn’t sleeping in, this is just my adherence to getting seven hours of sleep. Depending on when I get everything done for the day had a direct impact on when I lay down to go to sleep.
I’m pretty disciplined, and I stick to a schedule like you could hardly believe…
But with two middle school aged children (who are great, by the way), a wife, and two dogs who live inside at night…
Well sometimes, by the time I get everything done for the day, it’s a bit later than I prefer.
I long ago gave up the idea of shaving time off of my seven hours – I just adjust the time I set the alarm for in the morning.
Most often this doesn’t vary more than 30-45 minutes, on the rare occasion, it gets pushed back by a full 60 minutes.
Ideally, I like to go to bed at the same time each night, get seven hours of sleep…
So my routine for the next day doesn’t get pushed back.
But last night it didn’t quite work out as I prefer…
Yesterday was a mostly productive day, which means I was busy and got a lot of stuff done.
That combined with going to bed about 45 minutes later than usual…and subsequently getting up 45 minutes later – having 45 minutes less time this morning for getting my wife and kids up to get ready for work and school, so they can leave on time…
I kind of pushed to get everything done this morning. Unfortunately, my wife can’t just show up late for work. Nor can the kids show up late for school.
After they left, I didn’t have much motivation to sit down at the computer and start working.
So I didn’t.
Sometimes you just need a break and this morning was one of those days for me.
To be honest, I did get some things done that were in the back of my mind, but I took a leisurely stroll around the perimeter of our property in the early morning first.
Our neighborhood is very quiet and serene.
There’s not a lot of traffic on the road we live on ,even in the morning when most folks are leaving to go to work.
Some people are out for morning walks by themselves, others walk their dogs in the morning.
Otherwise there’s not a lot of activity.
Really, most mornings I could literally walk around my entire property naked and I don’t think anyone would notice at all.
That’s how peaceful, serene, and quiet our neighborhood is.
Now, I’ve never tried this…walking around naked that is. But I probably could with little to no notice from anyone.
So…after a leisurely walk, getting a few tasks done, I am right now writing.
I told myself this morning that all I HAD to do today is write 500 words. So that’s what I’m doing.
Have a great day!
