Grandma Hazel Died Yesterday

I wanted to write this yesterday…but often, just like death, things don’t follow a plan.

Grandma Hazel lived a full life. She ate well, took good care of herself and exercised religiously for decades.

Her form of exercise was walking. She was known around the area for walking, quite briskly, on a daily basis for years and years. When the weather was bad she would walk on a treadmill she had indoors at her home.

Grandma Hazel outlived three husbands. After the third one, she said she didn’t want to get married again.

I have many memories from her. Every year up until the past two (no thanks to COVID), our family would gather at her home on Christmas and Easter. It was there that we would have Easter lunch, the younger ones would hunt for Easter eggs and everyone would catch up since it was at theses times that most of our family would get to see one another.

Times change. People come and go. Grandma Hazel lived a life worthy of example all the way to old age. She will be missed. Easter lunch will have a new family tradition to fill this void.

Most of all, it’s times like these that for a moment makes me stop and think of what’s really important to me in this life.

Live all the time you live!
